The Southwest Minnesota State baseball team announced on Wednesday the signing of four student-athletes that will join the Mustangs in the 2013 season: Mason Schnaible (Marshall), Sam Haas (Madison), Travis McGlauflin (Sioux City, Iowa) and Elliott Serbus (Redwood Falls).
A senior for the Tigers this season, Schnaible batted .467 last year with 23 runs scored, 22 RBIs, five doubles and three triples, becoming an All-Southwest Conference and All-Area selection at shortstop. Schnaible was also an All-Conference and All-Area pick in football and basketball. Mason's father, Blaine, also played baseball at SMSU from 1986-89.
Haas is a three-year letterwinner at Lac qui Parle Valley High School and is a two-time All-West Central Conference selection. He is also a standout football player and wrestler, finishing in 2nd place at the state wrestling meet in March for Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle Valley.
Serbus, who is currently playing at Century College in White Bear Lake, was named all-region as a freshman with a .374 batting average. He also had 12 doubles, 20 RBIs and 20 stolen bases.
McGlauflin, a 6-foot-6 right-handed pitcher, was named second team all-district as a junior. Travis' brother, Corby, is currently a junior pitcher for the Mustangs.
