Area baseball

Wabasso 8, Springfield 3 (11 inn.)

Springfield tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, but in the 11th inning, the Wabasso baseball team put away the Tigers with a six-run frame on the way to an 8-3 Tomahawk Conference victory Friday

Blake Altermatt paced the Rabbits' offense with a 3-for-6 night at the plate, driving in a pair of runs. Seth Guetter and Caleb Salfer both had four hits in the Wabasso victory.

Alex Fink was 4-for-5 with a triple and double for Springfield, while Jake Menage was 4-for-6.

The Rabbits (4-2 Tomahawk, 4-2 overall) travel to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Monday.

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton's offense struck for 15 hits in a 10-8 win over Southwestern United in a non-conference game played Friday in Heron Lake.

Phil Madsen had three hits and knocked in two runs to lead the Knights' offense. Luke Wiering added two hits and two RBIs, while Shay Wabeke and Brent Wiering each had two hits. Abel Romandia and Nick Moberg each had one hit and knocked in two runs.

Wabeke also earned the win on the mound, pitching a complete game. He gave up eight runs (four earned) on eight hits. He walked five batters and struck out five batters.

The win moves the Knights to 2-4 overall. They will host Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Monday in Tyler.

LQPV 12, YME 5

A pair of six-run innings propelled Lac qui Parle Valley to a 12-5 win over Yellow Medicine East Friday in a West Central Conference matchup played in Granite Falls.

The Eagles had their first six-run inning right out of the gate, knocking out YME starting pitching Jacob Sharkey after just 1/3 inning. LQPV scored six runs off of Sharkey, four of which were earned.

Conor Christenson pitched the next three innings for YME, giving up six runs (two earned) on seven hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Aaron Zieske pitched the final 3 2/3 innings for the Sting, striking out five batters and not allowing a run.

YME had six errors in the game, while LQPV had four.

Sam Haas led LQPV offensively, going 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, two RBIs and two runs scores. Five of the Eagles' 14 hits went for extra bases.

For YME, Ryan Reishus went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, Adam Koepke went 2-for-3 and scored two runs, and Zieske added a pair of hits.

The Sting drop to 3-5 overall and will play a conference road game against BOLD on Tuesday.

Yellow Medicine East pitcher Allie Trudel struck out six and held Lac qui Parle Valley to one hit in a 12-2 five-inning West Central Conference win Friday in Madison.

Nena McCalla led YME's offense on a windy day with a 3-for-4 performance. Jennessa Hoffman had a base hit and an RBI in the victory.

At 5-1 in the West Central Conference and 5-5 overall, the Sting host BOLD on Tuesday

Area golf

RRC sweeps home meet

The Red Rock Central boys' and girls' golf team each notched wins over Adrian on Friday in Sanborn, with the boys winning 193-201, and the girls beating Adrian 217-222.

The Falcons' Zach Valentin was the boys' medalist after shooting a 46 on Friday. Jordan Smith and Adam Knorr carded a 48 and 49, respectively. Ryan Elias finished with a 48 for the Dragons.

In the girls' meet, RRC's Alison Kircher was the medalist with a 48, beating Adrian's Katie Wieneke by two strokes. Makayla Meier carded a 55 for the Falcons.

Boys Team Results: 1. Red Rock Central 193; 2. Adrian 201.

RRC Individual Results: Zach Valentin 46, Jordan Smith 48, Adam Knorr 49, Brandon Sohre 50.

Girls Team Results: 1. Red Rock Central 217; 2. Adrian 222.

Area tennis

YME 5, Minnewaska Area 2

The Yellow Medicine East boys' tennis team picked up its first West Central Conference victory of the season, beating Minnewaska Area 5-2 on Friday in Granite Falls. With the win, the Sting move to 1-2 in the West Central, 3-2 overall.

YME's doubles went undefeated against the Lakers, led by the No. 1 duo of Brandon Repsher and Carter Iverson taking a 6-0, 6-1 win over Minnewaska Area's Dalton Feeken and Austin Pauly.

The Sting stay home Monday to take on Worthington.
