On Thursday, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced the Southwest Minnesota State baseball players Adam Thygesen and Chris Eichten, and softball player Amy Dreessen were named to the Capital One Academic All-District VII teams in their respective sports.
District VII is made up of members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. All three will now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America team ballot later this month.
To be nominated for Academic All-District, a player must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 grade point average at his/her current institution.
Eichten, an outfielder from Wabasso, leads SMSU with a .354 batting average with two doubles, a home run, 26 runs and 17 RBIs. A two-time Academic All-NSIC member, Eichten has a 3.84 GPA in biology.
Thygesen, a second baseman from Red Wing, is batting .341 with 17 doubles, 26 RBIs and 25 runs. A three-time Academic All-NSIC pick, Thygesen has a 3.84 GPA in sports management.
Dreessen, from Elkhorn, Neb., batted .327 with 37 hits, six doubles, one triple and one home run in 2012. Two-time Academic All-NSIC, Dreessen has compiled a 3.83 GPA in biology.
