Marshall senior Max Deutz shot an even-par round of 71 to lead the Tiger boys' golf team to a win at a 12-team invitational Friday in Hutchinson.
The Tigers won with a team score of 312, which was eight strokes clear of second-place finisher New London-Spicer. St. Cloud Cathedral and Holy Family Catholic tied for third at 339.
Marshall head coach Allen Lucht said the golfers played through intermittent drizzle through most of the round before heavy rains soaked the players over the final few holes. Deutz bogeyed his final hole in the pouring rain but still finished eight strokes better than the next-lowest individual.
"He gave the shot in the arm the rest of the team needed," Lucht said of Deutz.
Marcus Holmberg and Brent Haukom each shot 80 for the Tigers, Matt Bennett carded an 81, and Alex Buysse and Matt Christianson each fired a round of 83.
"Even in those conditions, we didn't have the scores to really go with Max yet," Lucht said. "I'd like to see a couple more scores in the 70s, but it's getting closer. In those conditions, it was still pretty good."
