Kirsten Webskowski tied for eighth place as an individual to lead the Marshall girls' golf team to a fourth-place finish at a nine-team tournament played Monday in Hutchinson.
The Tigers posted a team score of 391, led by Webskowski's round of 93. Minnewaska Area ran away with a competition with a 339, followed by Chanhassen (375), Hopkins (381) and Marshall. Minnewaska's Jenna Janu earned individual medalist honors with a 77.
Joining Webskowski with the top four scores for Marshall were Hanna Peterson (95), Jessica Blanchard (100) and Laura Mitlyng (103).
With her golfers playing with some top-notch competition, Marshall head coach Nancy Blanchard felt the Tigers put in a great performance.
"Minnewaska is always one of the top teams year in and year out. Chanhassen, Hopkins and both Mankato teams were there," Blanchard said. "All in all, it was a really good field and I thought it would be tough, so for us to finish fourth, I was very pleased."
Nancy Blanchard was especially pleased by Webskowski's round. She said the course played tight, and the sophomore handled the conditions well.
"She's been hitting the ball much better than she did last year," Blanchard said. "Saturday (in Fairmont) she struggled with her short game, but she did well today and she's been hitting the ball pretty straight.
"I think she's on the verge. I think she can be consistently around the low 90s and will be able to continue to get that lower."
Blanchard said she was happy to see a variety of her golfers continue to play well, which has been a trend this year. The Tigers will try to keep that trend going today with a Southwest Conference dual against Redwood Valley in Redwood Falls.
