Dawson-Boyd sweeps M/C/L

On Tuesday in Minneota, the Dawson-Boyd softball team pulled off a Camden Conference sweep, defeating Minneota/Canby/Lincoln HI 3-2 in Game 1 and 12-2 in five innings in Game 2.

In Game 1, Sadie Zaiser struck out 11 for the Blackjacks, and helped her cause with a double, while Nicole Jurgenson went 2-for-3. For the Vikings, Ricki Kallhoff was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the first game.

In the nightcap, Kaitlin Johnshoy belted a home run for Dawson-Boyd, and Mari Lee led the offense with a 3-for-3 effort. M/C/L was held to two hits: a triple by Kallhoff and a solo home run by Sara DeSmet in the fifth inning.

The Blackjacks (6-4 Camden, 9-4 overall) head to Lakeview on Thursday, while the Vikings (2-6, 4-8) face Lakeview on Monday in Cottonwood.

The Murray County Central baseball team got a four-hit shutout from Sam Erickson, knocking off the other one-loss team in the Red Rock Conference, Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin, 4-0 on Tuesday in Slayton.

Erickson went seven innings, striking out two and walking two. Nate Wieneke, Nick Petersen and Austin Christensen each hit a double in the win.

MCC (8-2 overall, 7-1 Red Rock) will travel to Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian for a conference game on Thursday.

RRC/WWG 10, Edgerton/SWC 9

The Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove baseball team built an early nine-run cushion on Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian Tuesday and ended up needing every bit of it. The Falcons gave up three runs in the fourth and five runs in the bottom of the seventh, but managed to hold on for a 10-9 Red Rock Conference win in Edgerton.

Daniel Maras led RRC/WWG at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two stolen bases. Jacob Comnick was 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, Dylan Bunting was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, and Logan Willhite went 2-for-4 for the Falcons.

Taylor Vollmer picked up the win for RRC/WWG, striking out three over four innings of work.

RRC/WWG moves to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference. The Falcons will host a doubleheader against Adrian on Thursday.

RRC girls defeat SESM

The Red Rock Central girls' golf defeated Sleepy Eye Saint Mary's, while the boys fell on Tuesday.

The Falcon girls shot a 219, led by Alison Kircher's 46. Shelby Evans added a 53, while Makayla Meier and Kylie Redenius shot 57 and 63, respectively.

The RRC boys shot a 195 on the day. Jordan Smith carded a 47, while Brandon Sohre and Adam Knorr each added a 49. Zach Valentin finshed the top four with a 50.

YME boys finish 3rd

The Yellow Medicine East boys' golf team shot a 174 to finish third in the West Central Conference South boys' golf meet at Atwater on Tuesday.

Mitch McCosh shot a 38 to lead the Sting, while Spencer McCosh carded a 44 and Charles Blue and Sam Jans shot 45 and 47, respectively.

With two meets left, YME sits in fifth place overall in the conference, while Mitch McCosh is third in the overall individual standings.

MCC boys, girls take 2nd at 3A True Team meet

The Murray County Central boys and girls track teams have one more meet to find out if they make the State True Team track meet.

But this one is all on paper.

The Rebel boys and girls finished second in the Section 3A True Team meet to Luverne on Monday and go into the wild-card meet, which is done with the distances and times from the section meet.

On the boys' side, MCC's Jack Thony took top honors in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes as well as the long jump. Tanner Nepp grabbed another first for the Rebels with a win in the shot put.

TMB's Marco Perez captured the 800-meter dash, and Eric Donner took first in the high jump.

The MCC girls didn't take any first-place finishes, but scored enough points for second place. Crystal Van Iperen took second in the 800-meter run, and Hannah Schmidt took second in the long jump for the Rebels.

Sammie Gervais placed first in the high jump for the Panthers at the meet.

YME boys' tennis drops WCC dual against Monte

The Montevideo boys' tennis team swept all three doubles matches on its way to a 5-2 win over Yellow Medicine East in a West Central Conference dual played Tuesday in Montevideo.

Clinton Repsher earned a win for YME at No. 2 singles, defeating Alex Carlbom 7-5, 6-4. At No. 4 doubles, the Sting's Ethan Ator defeated Sahnje McGonigle 6-2, 6-2.

The Sting fall to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the WCC after the loss. YME has a make-up match today against Lac qui Parle Valley.
