Country Gospel worship services start in June at Augustana Lutheran in Clarkfield
A summertime tradition returns, starting Wednesday night, June 6, when the churches of Healing Waters Parish kick off their weekly Country Gospel worship services.
The service starts at 7:30 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church in Clarkfield. Services will take place at 7:30 p.m. each Wednesday through the summer at Augustana, except for July 4. The final Wednesday night service of the summer will be Aug. 29. A coffee fellowship will follow each service in the Augustana church basement.
The worship service, with a casual atmosphere, is open to all.
Augustana is one of five churches that are members of Healing Waters Parish, all located in Yellow Medicine County. The others are Bergen Lutheran, St. Lucas Lutheran, Swede Home Lutheran and Yellow Medicine Lutheran. The churches are congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
The Country Gospel services are designed to be upbeat and full of familiar music - traditional hymns and classic gospel songs. Along with the songs, there is a structure to the worship centered on a musical liturgy designed for the service and set to traditional country tunes.
The music is led by a country gospel band made up of members from the different churches in Healing Waters Parish. But those who attend are encouraged to join in the singing.
