MINNEOTA - Funeral services for Betty Jean Jensen, 81, of Hendricks, formerly of Minneota, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Betty died Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Betty Jean (Ness) Jensen was born Aug. 12, 1930, in Murray County to Garfield and Edith (Johnson) Ness. Betty went to country school in Ruthton and then attended Ruthton High School. On Oct. 8, 1947, she married John Jensen and began their lives together in Minneota. Betty was very dedicated to serving God, and spent many hours in service at Hope Lutheran Church. She began her career working as a secretary for Hope Lutheran Church, later working for Henry Borson Insurance Company. She was also able to work alongside her son Gary at Culligan Water Company. She spent the last years of her career as a typesetter for the Minneota Mascot newspaper. She spent many hours with friends, playing cards and socializing at the Minneota Senior Center. The greatest gift to Betty was her family. She exemplified what it meant to be a mother, teaching her children lessons in love, patience, and care.
Betty is survived by her children, Arlyss (and Lenny) Hovland of Marshall, John R. Jensen of Marshall, Gary (and Renee) Jensen of Deltona, Fla., Bonnie Ann (and Myron) Walters of Faribault, Crystal (and Jay) Gislason of Gary, S,D,; sister Phyllis Toft of Clarkfield; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband John; her parents; son, Brian; and brother, Marlo.
