In February my wife and I had the privilege of bringing eight of our youth to a conference in the Cities called Dare 2 Share. It included training on and opportunities to share Christ during the conference. Students received clear Biblical teaching on what the Gospel of Jesus Christ is and motivation to share it with others. All of the students came to me with a first step they're going to take to reach out to their friends with the Gospel and we have seen fruit from this since the conference. In addition, all of the students were able to have spiritual conversations in a mall with random people. What a great experience for them to have in helping them overcome their fear with Christ's perfect love.
Several of the students were able to have text or phone conversations about the Gospel during the conference with their friends and relatives back home. Funny how it takes getting miles away to begin deep conversations. These students then assisted me in teaching the youth group what they learned about evangelism in the following weeks and have really been used by God to spark a passion for evangelism in their peers. To God be all the glory!
In April, four adult youth leaders and myself brought 25 youth to the E-Free's North Central District Youth Conference held in Rochester. The theme was "Connected" with John 15:4 as the main Scripture: "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me." Nick Hall was the keynote speaker from Pulse Ministries, which helps college campus ministries unite to reach their campus for Christ.
Students received clear Biblical teaching on what it means, looks like and motivation to connect with God daily throughout their day. A student in our group gave his life to Christ after being introduced to the Gospel through his peers and several of our youth events throughout this past year. What a sweet process to watch God use! A handful of students made commitments to stay connected to Christ regularly. They also lined up peers and leaders to hold them accountable to this in the coming weeks. Several students that have been rather apathetic towards Christ for quite some time started to open up about struggles and committed to really seeking Christ from here on out. What an answer to prayer! A couple students were really encouraged to keep going with their student-led prayer and Bible study group at school as they found a group of students doing the same. A couple more have been motivated to join in with this student led ministry.
There's no question that God used these events powerfully in the lives of our youth. The question is, will we as adults follow suit and get serious about looking for opportunities to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others and abiding in Christ through connection with Him throughout our day?
