MARSHALL - Shortly after being announced as the 2012 Minnesota Boys State lieutenant governor Friday morning at Southwest Minnesota State University, Tommy Nelson wanted to thank everyone who played a part in his successful campaign.
"I'm very thankful and amazed," said Nelson, a Tracy Area High School senior-to-be. "I'm here because of the support of other people. I thank all the different counties for supporting me and I give thanks to my city (Rochester), to my party (Federalists) and to God, for even letting me be here at Boys State at all."
Nelson said he was extremely proud and excited to be elected to the leadership position.
"To lead is to serve," he said.
Fellow Federalist Zac McFarland was elected as Boys State governor and will represent Minnesota at the 2012 Boys Nation.
"Personally, I've never been to Disneyworld, but it couldn't be better than this,"?he said.
Other Constitutional officers elected were Federalists Jonathon Sabel (state auditor), Mason McCormick (attorney general) and Isaac Kruse (associate justice) in addition to Nationalists Alex Cheng (secretary of state), Grant Knott (chief justice) and Seyi Agboola (associate justice).
