Marshall football to stay in Southwest Conference

Independent staff report

After weighing its options, the Marshall High School football team will stay put in the Southwest Conference for the foreseeable future.

During Monday's school board meeting, Marshall Superintendent Klint Willert said the Wright County Conference would allow the Tigers to join the conference as scheduling partners without being full members of the conference. However, without being a full member of the Wright County, Marshall players would be ineligible for all-conference selections, among other postseason accolades.

After consulting with Athletic Director Bruce Remme and head football coach Terry Bahlmann, Willert said the team has decided to remain with the Southwest Conference.

"We've opted to continue where we're at," Willert said. "But that may change in the future."
