Marshall Blue sweeps
Worthington
The Marshall VFW Blue team went to Worthington Monday and came back to Marshall with a pair of wins, claiming a 5-1 win in Game 1 and a 13-6 victory in Game 2 of a doubleheader.
Blue got a strong pitching performance from Riley Sharbono in the first game. He held Worthington to five hits over seven innings, striking out seven batters and walking none.
Nolan Schaeffer was went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double to lead Marshall offensively. Nate Hoeft and Adam Kovash each added a double for Blue, as well.
Marshall Blue exploded for seven runs in the second inning of Game 2 to take a commanding lead.
Schaeffer again led Marshall at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs. Sharbono was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Mason Campion and Noah Winkelman each had a pair of hits.
Connor Messman got the win for Marshall, striking out four batters and giving up one walk and eight hits.
Blue was coming off a weekend tournament in Alexandria, where the team went 2-2. They beat Fridley and Delano and lost to Alexandria and Irondale.
At 8-4 overall, Marshall Blue will continue action today in Alexandria.

Marshall Orange 15, Slayton 5
The Marshall Orange VFW baseball team piled on the runs early in a 15-5 win over Slayton Monday in Marshall.
Brad Bahlmann was 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBIs to lead Marshall offensively. Jack Bock went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Brent Andries and Collin Reilly each had one hit and two RBIs.
Orange scored six runs in the first, two in the second and seven in the third to grab a commanding 15-3 lead through three innings.
Scott Buss pitched all five innings for Orange, giving up eight hits with three strikeouts, a walk and a hit batter.
Marshall improves to 6-4 with the win and will return to the field Wednesday for a game at Sioux Falls South.
