GHENT?- Mass of Christian Burial for Alan "AJ" Maag, Jr., 21, of Ghent will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cottonwood. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

He died Monday, June 25, 2012, as a result of an auto accident near Cottonwood.

Alan Michael Maag, Jr. - known to all as AJ - was born Aug. 15, 1990, to Kim and Alan Maag, Sr. in Marshall. He was baptized in the Catholic faith at Blessed Sacrament Church in Florence, S.D. and received the Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation at Holy Redeemer in Marshall.

AJ attended elementary school at Holy Redeemer School in Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School in 2009. He has lived with his family in Marshall, Wallace, S.D., Russell and Cottonwood. He currently resided in Ghent. He enjoyed his work with HSI, Inc. and planned to attend Southwest Minnesota State University in the fall. AJ was a Jr. Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and was an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hanging out with friends and his little brothers. He recently helped his grandparents celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

AJ is survived by his parents, Alan and Kim Maag; brothers, Garett and Kamden Maag and dog, Andy of Cottonwood; grandparents, Dennis and Marie Maag of Bradley, S.D., Alvina and Martin Wigen of Luverne, John Borning of Echo; great-grandmother, Elaine Borning of Echo; aunts and uncles, Kevin and Cindy Maag of Gurnee, Ill., Beth and Paul Soenneker of Becker, Aaron Maag and Pam Lewis of Ft. Myers, Fla., Kent and Sarah Maag of Blaine, Terry and Kelly Kaiser Borning of Billings, Mont., Julie and Matthew Oien of Volin, S.D., Christopher and Lisa Borning of Echo, and Shawn Borning of Winthrop, and many, many cousins.

He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Fred and Clara Maag, Elmer and Ellen Warrington, Clifford and Helen Hunt, Glen Borning, Orwill and Myrtle Wigen and cousin, Matthew Martin Wayne Oien.
