Despite giving up four runs over the final two innings, the Marshall A's managed to hold on for a 6-5 Corn Belt League win over Bird Island Wednesday night in Bird Island.
The A's held a 6-1 run through the first six innings before the Bullfrogs scored three in the bottom of the eighth against Marshall starter Nate Dickhausen. Dickhausen worked 8 1/3 innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits while striking out nine. Zach Olson came on with one out in the ninth and got the save, allowing one unearned run.
Ben Korger had three hits and two RBIs for the A's. Kyle Young and Taylor Rignell each had a double and a single, and Tyler Flattum added a triple for Marshall.
The A's big inning came in the fifth when they put three runs on the board to take a 5-1 lead.
Marshall improves to 16-5 with the victory. The A's game against Wilmont scheduled for Friday has been cancelled due to player shortage, so Marshall's next game will be Saturday against the Milroy Yankees at Legion Field.
