It's safe to say the Marshall Mudcats had an up-and-down evening on Thursday at Legion Field in a Legion baseball doubleheader against Sioux Falls East.
The Mudcats won Game 1 10-1, but were throttled in Game 2 by a score of 14-1.
Riley Carpenter helped Marshall get the night off to a good start, throwing a complete game and allowing just one unearned run. He finished with three strikeouts, one walk and allowed five hits. Carpenter was also 2-for-4 at the plate.
Mason Schnaible had a big game for the Mudcats offensively, going 4-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and a stolen base.
Game 2, it didn't go so well.
The Mudcats were held to just three hits and scored one unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to prevent the shutout.
Sioux Falls East scored 14 runs on 14 hits against Marshall pitchers Aaron Mathiowetz, Jared Holland and Michael Danahar.
The Mudcats (4-9 overall) will try to bounce back Monday at home against Litchfield.
