Irish split 4-game weekend

It was a busy weekend at Irish Yard, where the Milroy Irish split a four-game set.

On Saturday, the Irish were in a couple of pitchers' duels, winning a 2-1 game against Granite Falls before falling to Heron Lake 1-0.

Clay Ellis pitched a gem for the Irish against the Kilowatts and earned a complete-game win. He struck out one batter, walked three and gave up just one run, which came in the first inning.

Dominic Dolan led the Irish offensively, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a stolen base. Tyler Peterson added a pair of hits.

The Irish were shut out in their next game, getting held to six hits by the Lakers' Ben Schneevel, who worked the whole game. Heron Lake scored the game's lone run in the top of the seventh. Alex Meyer led off the inning with a double and scored after a pair of sacrifices by the Lakers.

Sunday, the Irish had three homers in a 10-6 win over Wilmont and then dropped a 10-4 contest to Hadley.

In the win over Wilmont, Ellis hit a two-run homer in the third inning. It was the first home run in Irish Yard history, but was followed by four more in the game. Isaac Dolan had two of them. He went 4-for-4 with two homers, two doubles aand five RBIs.

Milroy's Josh Ramos also had a solid game, going 2-for-3 with a triple.

Isaac Dolan was the winning pitcher. He gave up two runs over five innings with five strikeouts and no walks.

The Irish (11-13 overall, 7-5 Gopher League) return to action Saturday with a pair of road games, first taking on Wilmont and then Luverne. Milroy then stays home Sunday for a 1 p.m. game against Fox Lake at Irish Yard.
