Faith in action for July 6

July 6, 2012
By the Rev. Matt Peterson , Marshall Independent

St. Stephen Lutheran Church

Here we are in the midst of summer. Summer is the season of many things: trips to the pool, bike rides, bug bites, skinned knees, T-ball, soccer, fireworks on the 4th of July, family reunions, grilling burgers, picnics, outdoor concerts and much, much more. Summer is also the season for youth to explore their faith at St. Stephen Lutheran Church!

Summertime is here at St. Stephen! This summer, St. Stephen Lutheran Church is offering two opportunities for the youth of the community to experience the love of God in Christ in an intentional, fun-filled, faith-forming way. Both of these week-long events are open to anyone in the community. Registration is still open for both of these weeks. Registration forms can be found on our website:, or call the church office at 537-1516. No one will be turned away for inability to pay.

Shetek Day Camp at St. Stephen (Monday, July 16-Thursday July 19). Led by Shetek Lutheran Ministries staff, day camp is four days of Christian faith formation for youth who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade. The theme is "The Good Shepherd." Camp is held at St. Stephen Lutheran Church from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The cost is $30 and covers everything except your own bag lunch. The day campers will present a program at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18. The whole community is invited to see and hear what the day campers have learned!

St. Stephen Vacation Bible School (Monday, July 30- Friday, Aug. 3): for youth age 3 through fifth grade, Vacation Bible School is held from 9-11 a.m. at St. Stephen Lutheran Church for five days of exploring God's word with games, music, crafts, worship, Bible time, and more. Our theme this year is "Splash in God's Word." We'll talk about all the ways God uses water to convey his promises to us: baptism, Noah and the flood, Jonah, and much more! The cost is $10 per child and includes a T-Shirt, crafts, and programming. All are welcome!

We hope this summer is filled with opportunities for your recreation, and we pray that God may "re-create" you through your activities. You are welcome at St. Stephen!
