Marshall Blue starts 2-0 in Brookings
The Marshall VFW Blue baseball team opened play in the Brookings (S.D.) tournament on a high note, picking up a pair of wins Friday against Yankton (S.D.) and Brookings.
In a 4-2 victory against Yankton in Game 1, Mason Campion led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Conner Mesman went six innings, striking out three for the victory on the mound for Blue.
In Game 2 against Brookings, Blue's offense exploded for 12 hits and 18 runs, and also capitalizing on eight Brookings errors. Doing the most damage was Nolan Schaeffer, who went 4-for-5 with a pair of triples and six RBIs. Noah Winkelman had three hits, three runs scored and an RBI, while Connor Winkelman and Campion also scored three runs each for Marshall. Alex Marks had two RBIs and crossed home plate twice in the victory.
Marshall Blue continues play in the three-day tournament today against Watertown (S.D.).

Hadley 6, Pipestone 4
Alex Petersen finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs for Hadley, pushing the Buttermakers to a 6-4 victory over Pipestone Friday in Hadley.
Eric and Nate Wieneke each belted doubles for Hadley, with Nate finishing with two hits. James Wajer also had a pair of hits for the Buttermakers, who improve to 7-7 in the Gopher League and 8-11 overall.
Danny Moffitt had a home run for Pipestone in the loss.
Hadley stays at home Sunday, playing a game against the Hadley alumni before facing Adrian at 6 p.m.

Lamberton 9, Searles 6
The Lamberton Long Sox held off a late-inning rally from the Searles Grizzlies, winning 9-6 Friday night in Lamberton.
Lamberton jumped out to an early lead after a four-run first inning. Searles got the game to within one after a three-run top of the second.
The Long Sox stretched their lead to 6-3 with two runs in the third. A run in the fourth and two more in the sixth pushed the Lamberton lead to 9-3. The Grizzlies' attempted rally began in the top of the seventh as they scored three runs in the inning.
After Lamberton starter Tyler Reiner allowed three runs in the top of the seventh, Johnny Pistulka closed the door on Searles, picking up a six-out save. Reiner allowed six runs (three earned) on nine hits over seven innings of work. Pistulka gave up no hits in his two innings.
Pistulka also provided a spark at the plate for the Long Sox, who prospered from their four-run first inning. He finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Isaac Jenniges also had two RBIs for Lamberton on 2-for-3 hitting. Mike Samyn went 1-for-2 with three RBIs for the Long Sox.
With the win, Lamberton moves to 15-1 in the Tomahawk East League and 19-3 overall. The Long Sox return to action Sunday when they host the New Ulm Brewers at 3 p.m.
