Marshall Blue bobbles ball in 8-1 loss to Luverne

July 10, 2012
Marshall Independent

Eight errors eroded the confidence of the Marshall VFW Blue baseball team as it lost to Luverne 8-1 Monday evening in Marshall.

The impact of the errors was compounded by Marshall Blue having only two hits over the seven inning game. One of those hits came off the bat of Mason Campion, who drove in the only Marshall Blue run with an RBI single in the first inning. Noah Winkelman's double was the other Marshall hit.

Luverne scored eight runs on nine hits against three Marshall pitchers and scored in six of the games seven innings. Riley Sharbono started for Marshall and gave up six runs over four innings pitched. Sharbono was relieved by Nathan Hoeft in the fifth inning. Hoeft allowed two runs over two innings. Walker Werpy was the final pitcher for Marshall Blue, pitching a scoreless seventh inning.

Marshall VFW Blue (15-8 overall) look to rebound when they travel to Sacred Heart today. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
