Canby goes 3-0 over weekend

The Canby Knights improved to 8-10 overall and 8-6 in the Land O' Ducks League with three wins over the weekend. Canby defeated Dawson 11-9 on Friday, beat Rosen 4-1 on Saturday, and ended the weekend with a 16-12 victory against Wheaton.

In Friday's game with the Drakes, Mike Greenman, Tony Ross and Christopher Nemitz each drove in three runs, and Dan Yackley finished with three hits. On the mound, Bryce Gorder came in and pitched 6 1/3 innings of relief, striking out six for the win.

Facing the Express on Saturday, Dusty Roemhild got a complete-game victory on the rubber, striking out seven and holding Rosen to four hits. Nemitz gave Canby a cushion in the seventh inning with a two-run home run.

In the weekend finale against the Walleyes, Trever and Tate Citrowske each had three hits, and Pete Haugen paced the Knights' offense with five RBIs.

Canby is back on the field Friday, traveling to Montevideo.

Milroy Yankees 4

Tied at three after six innings, Sacred Heart put together runs in the seventh and eighth inning, escaping with a 5-4 victory over the Milroy Yankees in Corn Belt League play Sunday in Sacred Heart.

Brian Dolan hit into a fielder's choice to score a run, cutting Milroy's deficit to one in the top of the ninth inning. But Nate Hebrink struck out the last batter of the game to end any hopes of a Yankees comeback.

Matt Bauer belted a two-run home run for Milroy in the loss, while Dave Schmidt and Eric Dolan each had two hits.

The Yankees (7-4 Corn Belt, 9-5 overall) host Marshall on Saturday.
