To the editor:
I was proud to serve in the state senate for 23 years. It was a privilege to earn the trust of my constituents, and I never once forgot them. This year, I am supporting Alan Oberloh for state senate because he has a record of getting the job done and always putting constituents first.
During my time in the state legislature I worked closely with Alan, who has been serving as the mayor of Worthington for the past 10 years and was on the school board before that.
As a life-long resident of the region, Alan understands the issues affecting rural Minnesota, our agriculture economy and our veterans. Alan's leadership and his ability to bring people together to solve the real problems facing our area always impressed me.
He also owns and operates a small business in Worthington, where he has served on the area Chamber of Commerce. He is a strong advocate for our business community, and has experience in making sure government helps - and doesn't hinder - businesses that bring good-paying jobs to southwest Minnesota.
Most important, I know that Alan will be able to work across the aisle in St. Paul to end the gridlock and put his constituents ahead of party politics. With the state facing a projected $4.5 billion deficit next year, we need an independent voice that will fight to fund our schools, roads and public safety while keeping taxes low for Minnesota families.
Alan Oberloh is the right person for the job. Let's send him to work for us in St. Paul.
