Canby 3, Ortonville 0

The Canby Lancers bumped their record up to 3-0, picking up a three-set victory over Ortonville Thursday at Ortonville. Canby won 25-14, 25-16, 25-21.

Taylor Gorder racked up points at the net and at the service line, finishing with nine kills and seven ace serves. Hannah Jessen added five ace serves and six digs in the Lancers' victory. Kristy Schmidt set the tone for Canby's offense with 17 set assists.

On Tuesday, the Lancers face their first Camden Conference task, taking on their biggest rival and the defending conference champion Minneota Vikings in Canby.

The Minneota Vikings volleyball team improved to 2-0 on the season after beating the Pipestone Arrows in straight sets Thursday night in Pipestone.

Minneota dominated the match, especially the final set, winning 25-19, 25-19, 25-8.

Sophomore Taylor Reiss continued her solid play on the season. The middle hitter had 14 kills for the Vikings, while also leading the team in blocks (threee) and serving, finishing 19 of 20 with four aces.

Setter Megan Larson had 25 set assists for Minneota and helped out the team defense with 12 digs. Outside hitter Molly Hennen also had 12 digs for the Vikings.

Minneota opens up Camden Conference play in its next match, when the team travels to Canby on Tuesday to face the Lancers.

Springfield 3, RRC 1

The Red Rock Central Falcons fell to Springfield Tigers in four sets Thursday night in Lamberton.

After losing the first set 25-12, the Falcons managed to take Set 2 from the Tigers, 25-18. A close third set broke Springfield's way, 26-24. RRC wasn't able to recover during Set 4 and lost the match's final set, 25-13.

RRC was led offensively by senior middle hitter Katie Larsen's 10 kills. Tegan Derickson added seven kills for the Falcons, and also had 12 digs. Cassandra Erickson led RRC with 20 digs.

Fern Engen had four ace blocks for the Falcons, alongside three for Derickson. Freshman Mikaela Smith led the team with 18 set assists.

The loss now drops RRC to 0-2 on the season. The Falcons are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Windom.

RTR 3, MCC 1

After dropping the first set 25-18, the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton volleyball team recovered to take three straight sets to defeat Murray County Central 3-1 Thursday night in Tyler.

RTR won the final three sets with scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-21.

Janel Wichern had a standout night for RTR as the sophomore outside hitter led the team in kills (11), digs (25) and ace blocks (5). She also had four aces on 17 of 20 serving. Libero Anna Madsen also had 25 digs for the Knights.

MCC's top performer was middle hitter Kristi Bose, who finished with team highs in kills (23) and digs (24). Taylor Schreier chipped in with seven ace serves and 21 digs for the Rebels.

RTR moves to 2-0 on the season and hits the road to face Dawson-Boyd on Tuesday. With the loss, MCC is 0-2 and faces Adrian on Thursday.
