The Marshall swim team ended a long layoff by competing at the Prior Lake Invitational Saturday at Prior Lake High School.
The Tigers placed third in the six-team meet with 273.5 points. Prior Lake, a Class AA school, won its home invite with 536.5 points. Mankato West, the No. 4-ranked team in Class A, placed second with a score of 449.
Marshall was followed in the team standings by Saint Peter (267 points), Andover (264) and Simley (175).
Two Tiger swimmers achieved state-qualifying times at Saturday's meet. Senior McKenzie Vermeire did so by winning the 200 individual medley with her time of 2 minutes, 16.15 seconds. Her sister, sophomore Kylie Vermeire, did so in the 200 freestyle (2:00.04) and the 500 freestyle (5:20.29). She also won both of the races.
McKenzie Vermeire added a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:04.31).
Ashley Dunn earned a couple of fourth-place finishes for the Tigers. She swam a time of 2:23.27 in the 200 IM and had a time of 1:04.84 in the 100 butterfly. Abby Blanchette added a fourth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:17.71.
Abby Surprenant had the only other top-five finish in an individual event for the Tigers, taking fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:07.63).
Marshall's 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay teams each took third place.
