Area volleyball

WWG 3, Wabasso 2

The Westbrook-Walnut Grove volleyball team rallied from down 2-1 to defeat Wabasso 22-25, 25-15, 22-25, 25-19, 15-11 Monday in a non-conference match in Wabasso.

Paige Erickson had 15 kills, 14 digs and was 24 of 24 serving with two aces for the Chargers, who improve to 13-3 on the season. Dayna Comnick added 14 kills, nine digs and three ace serves. Hailey Osland also reached double digits in kills with 11. Abby Herding tallied 35 set assists in the match.

Wabasso was led by Chelsey Guetter, who had 13 kills and 15 digs. Desi Kramer had four ace serves and 11 kills and 13 digs, while Morgan Frank added 10 kills.

The Rabbits (8-4 overall) and Chargers each play again today, with Wabasso playing host to Sleepy Eye and WWG taking on Fulda in Westbrook.

Dawson-Boyd's Kylie Schuelke had 35 digs to help the Blackjacks to a sweep of Hanock in a non-conference match Monday in Hancock. The Blackjacks won the match 25-18, 25-15, 25-23.

Mari Lee and Nicole Jurgenson led the Blackjacks' attack with 15 and 10 kills, respectively. Andrea Lee had 21 set assists and Justine Flattum had 12 set assists.

Along with her 35 digs, Schuelke also had three ace serves. Justine Lee had 16 digs and eight kills for Dawson-Boyd.

The Blackjacks move to 11-3 with the victory and will resume Camden Conference play today with a match against Renville County West in Renville.

Area girls tennis

Melrose, Monte shut out Sting tennis team

The Yellow Medicine East girls tennis team went 0-2 at the Montevideo Triangular on Monday.

YME fell 7-0 to Melrose Area and 6-0 to Montevideo during a day in which the Sting won just three sets.

No. 4 singles player Leah Gluth took the second set from Melrose's Kenedy Meyer 6-4, but ultimately fell 4-6, 6-3, 10-7. Gluth would also win her first set against Montevideo's Tina Lipinski 6-3, but the match would be stopped with Gluth leading 3-2 in the second set.

No. 1 singles player Jordan Glad also stole a set against Montevideo, winning the first set 6-4 over Catherine Haugen. Glad, however, would drop the next two sets 6-0 and 10-4 for the loss.

The final set won by the Sting came from the No. 3 doubles pairing of Keaunna Hammer and Sandy Bartels. The duo fell to Montevideo's Jessa Kacka and Paige Jorgenson 6-7 (6-8), 6-0, 10-7.

YME travels to Glenwood today for a West Central Conference dual with Minnewaska Area.
