Thursday was unkind to participants from the Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd and Yellow Medicine East girls' tennis teams competing at the Section 3A individual tournament in Redwood Falls.
Both teams sent two singles players and two doubles pairings to the tournament, with neither team advancing any individuals to the semi-finals on Tuesday in St. Peter.
Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd's Kylie Jahn, seeded 16th in the singles tournament, opened the day with a three-set win over Luverne's Emilee Johnson, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Jahn, however, failed to win a game against top-seeded Aryn Eckstrom from St. James and was bounced from the tournament 6-0, 6-0.
Sixth-seeeded Kelle Thompson, also of LQPV/DB won her opening match in straight sets over Kelci Russenberger from Martin County West, 6-3, 6-2, but lost in the quarterfinals to Luverne's Kaitlin Wohnoutka 6-0, 6-1.
Wohnoutka also dispatched of YME's Danielle Clark, 6-2, 6-0. Clark had previously beaten Nicole Scotting of Pipestone earlier in the day.
Jordan Glad, seeded ninth for YME, defeated River Valley's Becky Roiger 7-5, 6-3 to earn her way to the quarterfinals, but, like Jahn, was quickly defeated by Eckstrom, 6-0, 6-0.
On the doubles' side, only YME's duo of Leah Gluth and Rachel Christensen managed a victory on Thursday. The pair defeated River Valley's Marlayna Evers and Erika Ries before falling to Megan Lahti and Michaela Nelson of St. James, 6-2, 6-2.
YME's other pairing, eighth-seeded Jordan Trotter and Britanna Raddatz lost to Fairmont's Camilla Hermanrud and Melissa Viesselman 6-1, 6-2 to end their year.
Kamryn Siedschlag and Amber Borstad from LQPV/DB lost to Redwood Valley's Alex Erie and Rebecca Einck 6-4, 6-4, while Anna Dvorak and Mary Savoy lost to Fairmont's Abby Fitzgerald and Sophie Shelgren 6-4, 7-5.
