To the editor:
Thank you to the city of Marshall for the wonderful opportunity to attend the second annual Minnesota Governor's Pheasant Opener. The hospitality extended to us was astounding and the energy surrounding the event intoxicating. We thoroughly enjoyed all the events. We made the most of a great day and stayed out hunting until the very end so we missed part of the post-hunt social, but the trade off was well worth it!
It was a tremendous day of hunting! Our group of nine hunters limited out, which was exciting in itself, but we feel there is more to hunting than "limiting out!" Hunting is also about meeting new people, the camaraderie between you and your hunting partners; watching a good dog work (whether it is your own or someone else's,) passing on the lessons and joys of hunting to new hunters; and the sportsmanship of passing up a shot to let someone else have a chance. We experienced all of those aspects of hunting this weekend in Marshall!
We would especially like to recognize the landowners who graciously invited us to hunt their property allowing us to see the prime pheasant hunting that the Marshall area has to offer.
We would like to thank all the sponsors of the event for their kind generosity; our hunting hosts, Loren and Harvey, for their time and efforts to show us a great day of hunting; and of course the committee (particularly Brad, Karen and Cal) who thought of everything, except maybe how to get us a flush toilet in the field!
We had a great time, and we can't wait to come back!
