To the editor:
As the vote is quickly approaching for the MERIT Center expansion and the Southwest Minnesota Amateur Sports Complex, I encourage all residents of Marshall to vote YES!
This vote reminds me of a vote brought to the Marshall community members in June of 1987. Voters then passed to build the current Senior Center and Park Side Elementary School. I recall the weeks before I heard one comment that stuck with me. That comment was: "This vote is about our community." That caused me to take a look around at that very moment. What did I see? First I saw my own three small children, a baby, a young professional business person, a working individual just off work, a person I was guessing that was newly retired and an older person.
You see I was the young college student mom with three young children and I knew I was voting for Park Side. The Senior Center I wasn't so sure of. Well, I voted yes for both, because it is about our community as a whole from the very young to the older adults.
The same is true of this vote. It is about our community as a whole. First it is good for the safety of the community. The new driving track expansion would provide much needed training for law enforcement and emergency response teams and allow our young drivers road driving experience. Second, the Sports Complex would provide economic growth for our community. As we grow it means more services will be needed, jobs created and more services available for all who live, work and play in Marshall. This economic growth is what has made Marshall what it is today and what it will be in the future.
I ask that you look around - see what makes Marshall the community it is. Ask yourself am I voting for the community as whole? That would be the best vote. That would be the YES vote!
