Section 5A playoffs

Wabasso 38, RRC 28

The Wabasso football team used a 22-point third quarter to break a 16-all halftime tie with Red Rock Central to advance to the second round of the Section 5A football playoffs with a 38-28 win on Tuesday night.

The Rabbits (5-4 overall) were led by Blake Altermatt and Tanner Rohlik. Each had two rushing touchdowns, but Altermatt's 85-yard punt return near the end of the third quarter helped extend the lead to 38-16 going into the final quarter.

Altermatt finished the game with 134 yards on 23 carries. Rohlik had 59 yards on 14 carries and tied Dalton Taylor for the team lead in tackles with 12.

Jeff Decock scored two of the Falcons' touchdowns, including one in the fourth quarter, but RRC (4-5) was unable to overcome the deficit. DeCock had 146 yards on 23 carries.

Wabasso will advance to face top-seeded Minneota/Lincoln HI on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Minneota.

Minneota/LHI 54, Lakeview 0

The Minneota/Lincoln HI football team lived up to its No. 1 seed in the Section 5A football tournament with a dominant 54-0 win over No. 8 seed Lakeview Tuesday night in Minneota.

The Vikings, who had a 40-0 lead at the half, held the Lakers to 81 total yards, while gaining 417 yards of total offense themselves. Lakeview was limited to just four first downs in the game.

Jeff Gladis led the Minneota/Lincoln HI rushing attack with 124 yards on 11 carries with a touchdown. Nathan Pavek added 72 yards on four carries with a score.

Minneota/Lincoln HI quarterback Austin Buysse was an efficient 15 of 22 passing for 132 yards with three touchdowns. Nathan Pavek caught two of those touchdown passes and had four catches for 60 yards.

Lakeview quarterback Taylor Pickthorn led his team in rushing with five carries for 19 yards. He was also 4-for-15 passing for 13 yards with two interceptions.

The Vikings advance to face No. 5 seed Wabasso at 3 p.m. Saturday in Minneota. Minneota/Lincoln HI defeated Wabasso 34-12 in the season opener between the two teams.

Lakeview ends its season with an 0-9 record.

Dawson-Boyd 51, Ortonville 20

Dawson-Boyd, the second-seeded team in Section 5A, made quick work of Ortonville on Tuesday, winning 51-20 in Dawson.

Justin Lee scored a pair of touchdowns on runs of six and 12 yards, respectively, while Nathaniel Huot returned a punt 72 yards for a touchdown and hauled in a pass for 88 yards for another score.

Lee finished the game with 11 carries for 76 yards, and Huot caught two passes for 120 yards.

Dawson-Boyd's Michael Anyasike and Dalton Palmer each had rushing touchdowns, while Michael Lee returned a fumble 27 yards, and Karson Lindblad returned a kickoff 85 yards.

The Blackjacks (8-1 overall) will play host to No. 3 seed Canby on Saturday for the right to move on to the section championship game.

Wyatt Kraus rushed for 211 yards on 23 carries with two touchdowns to lead the Canby Lancers to a 31-7 win over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in the first round of the Section 5A playoffs Tuesday in Canby.

Kraus had a 24-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and a 55-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Shay Wabeke led the Knights with 19 carries for 138 yards and a touchdown.

Tate Citrowske had a strong defensive game for Canby in the win, recording a team-high 14 tackles. Kraus and Austin Campbell each had 10 tackles, and Matt Gallegos added seven tackles and an interception.

The third-seeded Lancers move on to face No. 2 seed Dawson-Boyd at 3 p.m. Saturday in Dawson.

The Westbrook Walnut Grove football team struck first in the fourth quarter, but Fulda scored twice late to win 20-16 in the Section 3 9-Man football playoffs on Tuesday in Westbrook.

Dana Madson accounted for both Charger scores and 27 carries for 115 yards rushing. He also led the team with 13 tackles, including two sacks.

WWG's John Elzenga was 10-for-21 with 119 yards passing in the loss.

The Chargers end their season with a 4-5 record. Fulda advances to face No. 1 seed Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Section 3AA playoffs

Pipestone 37, TMB 22

The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton football team recovered two onside kicks and tied the game 22-all with Pipestone Area in the fourth quarter of the Section 3AA football playoffs, but was unable to take a lead and fell to the Arrows 37-22.

The Panthers (4-5 overall) broke through with 14 seconds left in the first half when Alec Swan punched in a 1-yard run, making it 15-6 going into the half.

Pipestone (5-4) extended its lead in the third, but a 5-yard touchdown pass from Parker Lanoue to Josh Kirk, followed by a successful onside kick, another Lanoue touchdown pass (33 yards to Zach Seaton) and two successful two-point conversions made it a tied game at 22 with 8 minutes, 31 seconds remaining.

The Arrows put together two long drives and ground out the clock, putting two more touchdowns on the board to win 37-22 and advance in the playoffs to face No. 1 seed Luverne.
