Supports Anderson for Supreme Court Justice

October 25, 2012
Marshall Independent

To the editor:

Minnesota voters should not overlook the election for Minnesota Supreme Court as they mark their ballots this November. The decisions of the Supreme Court can have a major impact on our lives.

Fortunately, incumbent Justice Barry Anderson is a man who displays the fairness and integrity we need to keep on the Supreme Court. Anderson has the breadth and depth of knowledge and experience needed to review the cases that come before the court.

He believes judges must perform their duties in a fair, impartial and nonpartisan manner, and must uphold the rule of law recognizing the limited but crucial role the people have assigned to our courts.

Justice Barry Anderson is an experienced judge, first appointed to the Minnesota Court of Appeals in 1998, and to the Minnesota Supreme Court in 2004.

He has written over 400 judicial opinions and participated in over 1,500 decisions.

He serves on the Judicial Council, the statewide governing board for the Minnesota Judiciary. He has taken a leadership role in implementing electronic filing of documents throughout the judiciary, an innovation designed to improve efficiency, save money and enhance access to documents for lawyers and litigants.

Barry Anderson is supported by four former Supreme Court chief justices, former DFL and Republican governors, and civic leaders from all three major parties. He has won their support because of his proven record of fairness, integrity, hard work and mastery of complex legal and constitutional issues.

His reelection would confirm the Minnesota court system's reputation for professionalism, high ethical standards and devotion to the pursuit of justice for our citizens.

Please vote to reelect Supreme Court Justice Barry Anderson on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
