Debates
THUMBS UP: The Chamber and the Southwest Minnesota State University Political Science Association put on a successful town hall forum Tuesday for House and Senate candidates in District 16. It was well-attended, and the audience did their part, coming up with more than two dozen questions for the candidates. Tuesday's debate can be seen via YouTube at www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7ieyk-fr0I&feature=plcp for those who weren't able to attend the debate or for anyone who was there but wants to refresh their memory. Another debate for local county and city candidates will take place from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Marshall Area YMCA. We strongly encourage residents from Marshall and Lyon County to attend next week's debate. These events are part of an important process, and if you're still undecided about a particular race this is your last chance to be educated before Nov. 6.
Another setback at CHS elevator in Tracy
THUMBS DOWN: Lighting struck for a second time at the CHS Inc. elevator in Tracy on Tuesday when a bin full of corn ruptured and collapsed. Clean-up at the site continued Tuesday. A lot of corn spilled, but fortunately there were no injuries; the only victims were a couple of vehicles. On Aug. 6 an explosion at the facility sent two people to the hospital.
Success in St. Louis
THUMBS UP: Hats off to the Marshall High School Marching Band, which placed first in Class A at the national Bands of America Super Regional Championship last weekend in St. Louis, Mo. Band, like many other extracurricular activities, tends to fly under the radar during the school season, and these musicians deserve a round of applause.
