After Jake Tiede's second 3-yard rushing touchdown of the game with 3 minutes, 20 second remaining, the Adrian Dragons stuffed the Murray County Central Rebels on fourth-and-inches to secure a 12-6 victory Saturday in Adrian. The Section 3A semifinal was the second meeting of the year between the teams, with Adrian winning 28-8 on Sept. 21.
MCC speedster Jack Thony started the scoring with a 54-yard run with just under two minutes remaining in the first half. Thony was unable to break loose again, however, as the prolific halfback was held to 67 yards on 20 attempts.
Tiede's first touchdown came with 1:21 remaining in the third quarter to tie the game at 6-all. The Dragons fullback finished with 95 yards on 17 rushes. Tailback Jordan Dingmann had a game-high 101 yards rushing.
The Dragons (8-2 overall) outgained the Rebels (4-6) 273 to 176 to advance to the Section 3A Finals at Mattke Field in Marshall on Friday. They will face St. Clair at 2:30 p.m. with a state tournament bid on the line.
