The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team played four games in two days to open it season over the weekend at the R/A Facility, but fell in all four contests against teams from the University of Illinois.
The Illinios women's team beat SMSU 51-49 in the Mustangs' season opener on Friday. David Nelson led SMSU with 24 points in the losing effort, and Savoy Brown added 13 points.
SMSU then played the Illinois men later Friday night and fell 58-28. Brown scored 13 of the Mustangs' points.
The Mustangs played the same two teams Saturday, starting with the Illini women. The Illinois women again won a tight contest, 57-53. Nelson had 22 points in the loss, and Brown scored 21.
Facing the Illinois men, SMSU lost 56-29. Brown led the way for SMSU with 14 points.
