There were a trio of contested races for the Murray County Board on Tuesday. Unofficial vote totals Tuesday night showed candidates James Jens, Robert Moline and Dave Thiner were elected to be county commissioners.
In Murray County Commissioner District 1, Jens had the most votes, at 521. Candidate Jamie Thomazin had 437 votes. District 1 includes the cities of Avoca, Currie and Dovray, as well as Shetek, Holly, Dovray, Des Moines River, Murray and Lime Lake Township. In Commissioner District 5, Thiner was the winner, with a total of 423 votes. Candidate Roger Zins had 381 votes. District 5 includes the city of Fulda, and Bondin and Belfast Township.
Commissioner District 2 had a more unusual race, with Robert Moline vying for the seat against a write-in campaign by Kevin Nelson. Moline was the winner, with 674 votes. Nelson had 235 write-in votes, and there were 15 other write-in votes in the district. District 2 includes the cities of Hadley and Lake Wilson, as well as Skandia, Lowville, Mason, Ellsborough, Cameron, Chanarambie and Lake Sarah Township.
