They started the season at No. 1 and that's where they finished. The Marshall Tigers volleyball team defeated Caledonia 17-25, 25-15, 26-24, 25-17 in the Class AA championship match Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul to repeat as state champions.

Making their 12th straight state appearance, the Tigers won the state championship for the fifth time since 2001.

The Tigers had three players reach double figures in kills, led by junior outside hitter Kenzie Beekman's 22. Sydney Griffin added 14 kills and 26 set assists, while senior Angela Tauer added 11 kills in her final match as a Tiger.

It was also a team effort defensively. Libero Hannah Bennett tallied a team-high 17 digs for Marshall, while Beekman had 14 digs and Steph Baker added 10. At the net, Callie Graff had five block assists, and Emma Doyle tallied three.

Marshall finished the season with a 29-5 record, going 17-0 against Class AA opponents. Caledonia ended its year with a 27-7 record.
