age 86 of Minneota

MINNEOTA - Mass of Christian Burial for Herman Bottelberghe, 86, of Minneota, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Minneota. Visitation will continue from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial is at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery in Minneota. Military honors provided by American Legion Post 199 and VFW Post 5334 of Minneota.

Herman died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at the Sanford Canby Medical Center in Canby.

Herman Hector Bottelberghe was born Dec. 15, 1925, in Eidsvold Township to Hector and Estella (DeCock) Bottelberghe. He grew up on the family farm near Minneota. Herman served in the U.S. Army from 1947-1948. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Minneota. Feb. 7, 1950, he was united in marriage to Annie Hammerlinck at St. Edward Catholic Church. The couple farmed and raised their family in rural Minneota. In 1974, they moved to town and Herman worked for the fertilizer plant until his retirement. Herman was a lifelong member of St. Edward Catholic Church and served as an usher. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, playing cards and feeding squirrels and birds. He was most passionate about spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Annie, of Minneota; daughter-in-law Julie Bottelberghe of Minneota; sons Roger (and Charlene) Bottelberghe of Brookings, S.D., Leo (and Deb) Bottelberghe of Minneota and Michael (and Deb) Bottelberghe of Walnut Grove; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren (one on the way); brother Raymond (and Bertha) Bottelberghe; sisters Delores Vlaminck and Beatrice (and John) Vlaminck; and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Hector and Stella, son Harold, sister and brotherin-law Lorraine and Cyriel Vlaminck, brother-in-law Andrew Vlaminck and nephew John Bottelberghe.
