The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team went 1-4 during a busy weekend of action at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The Mustangs opened play with two games on Friday. In their first game they lost to the University of Missouri 62-34. Savoy Brown had 13 points and 10 rebounds for SMSU.
SMSU then played host Wisconsin-Whitewater and fell by a score fo 60-43. Derek Klinkner led the Mustangs with 23 points and 12 rebounds, and Brown tallied 12 points in the losing effort.
The Mustangs played three games on Saturday, starting out with Texas-Arlington. Brown scored 12 points in a 63-27 loss, and David Nelson added eight.
SMSU closed out its road trip with two games against Edinboro (Pa.). Edinboro won the first game 42-35. Brown had 12 points, Nelson scored 11 and Klinkner was a basket away from a double-double with eight points and 13 boards.
The Mustangs finished the weekend strong with a 54-44 win over Edinboro. Nelson and Klinkner each tallied 18 points in the win, with Klinkner adding 11 rebounds. Brown was the third Mustang in double figures, scoring 14 points.
"I was real pleased with how we played this weekend," SMSU head coach Lew Shaver said. "We would have loved for the results on the scoreboard to be a bit different, but there's an attitude out there on the floor that's forming and it's real nice to watch."
The Mustangs (3-9 overall) return to action Dec. 8-9 at the Madonna Magic Invite in Lincoln, Neb.
