CANBY - Mass of Christian Burial for Rena Steffen, 101, of Canby, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Canby. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at Birk Funeral Home in Canby with a prayer service at 6 pm and a Rosary to follow. Visitation will continue from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home followed by procession to the church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery.

She died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby.

Rena Mary Steffen was born Nov. 15, 1911, in Ghent, the daughter of Phillip and Emily (Bockart) Locy. On May 28, 1938, she married Robert "Jack" Steffen at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Minneota. After their marriage, the couple lived on a farm near Arco. In 1944, they moved to a farm near Canby, where she lived until Jack's passing.

In her spare time, Rena loved cooking, gardening and helping out on the farm. She enjoyed many winters in Cave Creek, Ariz., with Jack. Rena was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church for many years.

Survivors include her two daughters, Phyllis (and Howard) Sheley of Hastings, Neb., and JoAnn (and Roger) Carlson of Backus; son, Dennis (and Edie) Steffen of Canby; daughter-in-law, LeAnn Steffen of Canby; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Launius of East Moline, Ill., and many nieces and nephews.

Rena was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Emily; husband, Robert "Jack" Steffen on Feb. 22, 1996; son, Gerald Steffen on June 27, 2012, and Gerald's wife, Diane, on July 20, 2001.
