To the editor:
There will always be people who go off the deep end. What can we do about shootings like the one in Connecticut on Friday?
One thing we can do is ban assault rifles. And we can eliminate high capacity clips that allow you to fire 50 or more bullets at a time. Billy the Kid was quite effective at killing people. And he only had a six-shooter. If you are intent on killing a bunch of people, at least you should have the inconvenience of having to reload.
The Connecticut shooter had one gun that would shoot six bullets per second. One hundred to 200 of the bullets he shot hit their mark. Each of the 20 children killed were hit between three to 11 times. All were between 6 and 7 years old. Some say it's fun to have a semi-automatic weapon that shoots many rounds. Maybe that's true. But what are your priorities?
We can reduce the number of people killed.
Strangely enough, the very same day as the Connecticut shootings, a madman also broke into a school in China. Guns are hard to get in China. So instead of shooting them, he stabbed 20 children.
All of them survived.
