Yohana Mekonnen, a freshman political science major from St. Paul, is the secretary of the Muslim Student Association at Southwest Minnesota State University for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Bormann completes student teaching 2012 fall semester
Kimberly Bormann, a Southwest Minnesota State University education student, has completed her student teaching this semester. Bormann was placed in third grade with classroom mentor Cate Luvads at the Sioux Falls School District. Bormann is an early childhood education major from Bancroft, Iowa.
In order to reach this milestone, SMSU student teachers must maintain a 2.8 cumulative grade pint average and have completed 90 credits toward their teaching degree. They must have successfully completed all their core coursework, including all their methods courses with lab placements, Pre-Student Teaching Experience and passed the Minnesota Teachers Licensing Examination Basic Skills Tests in reading, writing and mathematics before being able to student teach.
SMSU's student teachers are placed for a full semester, which provides them with a 15-16 week experience.
Vandeputte completes student teaching 2012 fall semester
Alyssa Vandeputte, a Southwest Minnesota State University education student, has completed her student teaching this semester. Vandeputte was placed in second and third grade with classroom mentor Lindsay Jones at the Billings School District. Vandeputte is an elementary education major from Marshall.
