Tiger boys fall to Hudson 4-1 in Schwan Cup finale

December 29, 2012
Marshall Independent

Mustering just 17 shots on goal, the Marshall boys' hockey team fell to Hudson (Wis.) 4-1 on Friday on the last day of the Schwan Cup in Blaine.

The Tigers' lone goal came on a unassisted effort by Leo Zerr 1 minute, 33 seconds into the second period. Zerr's short-handed goal tied the game at a 1-1, but the tie was brief.

Hudson answered at the 3:21 mark of the period as Henry Brose fired home a pass from Daniel Tripicchio to put the Raiders back out in front.

Along with the assist on the eventual game-winner, Tripicchio also netted Hudson's first and final goals.

A.J. Romanoski gave the Raiders a 2-goal advantage with a power play goal 90 seconds into the third period. Wyatt Dove and Parker Shefveland both assisted on Romanoski's goal, as well as the Tripicchio's goal at 13:50 of the first period.

Trailing by two goals and with time winding down, the Tigers were forced to pull goaltender Adam Cavazos, who made 22 saves in the game, for an extra attacker.

Unlike in their game against Winona on Thursday, the gambit failed as Tripicchio sealed the game with an empty net goal with just 50 ticks to go.

The Tigers (5-5-1 overall) return to the ice on Thursday as they host Southwest Conference rival Luverne at Lockwood Motors Ice Arena.
