MARSHALL?- Music Street, a Main Street mainstay since 1987, is starting the new year with a new look.

"It was time," said owner Lon Wright.

Aside from recarpeting and painting the lesson rooms a few years ago, the shop hadn't had an update since 1987 when Wright moved his base of operations to Main Street from the Market Street Mall.

The music supply store received a general freshening, including new carpet and paint.

"There is slat board on the walls," Wright said. "There was white pegboard before."

In addition, the front office area has been upgraded.

"It's a lot more efficient," Wright said. "We can service customers better and faster."

The music selection has been moved to the middle of the store for greater accessibility.

The remodeling "updates the look, and we can display a lot more items," he said.

The store has a large inventory of guitars, band and orchestra instruments, music and music accessories.

"We have a couple thousand guitar picks and the best selection around of slides," Wright said. "We have drumsticks and beaters and leather and nylon guitar straps."

Wright said the items are a little cheaper than what can be found on the Internet, plus personal service is included.

"You can get them immediately and if you need help restringing a guitar, we'll restring, clean it up and tune it up and make it perfect for them - oftentimes while they wait," he said. "We can teach them the proper way to put on guitar strings."

The technicians are all professionally trained, Wright said, and are performing musicians.

The repair department is due to get a makeover as well.

"The repair area is going to be renovated as soon as we can catch up with repairs," he said.
