Marshall wrestlers finish 1-1 in Adrian

In a preview of potential section matchups, the Marshall wrestling team split at the Adrian Area triangular on Tuesday, defeating Fulda/Murray County Central 40-32 before falling to Adrian Area 61-14.

"It was a good opportunity for us to try and pick up some section wins and get some really good matches with both teams," said Marshall head coach Justin Bouwman. "Both teams have some really good individuals."

Against the Raiders, the Tigers got their first win from Toby Semler. Nick Erbes scored a pin in just over three minutes at 120 pounds before Brent Breczinski recorded a major decision at 132. Riley Roth and Brandon Appel each got a forfeit win, while Jarrett Louwagie won 8-6 at 152.

At 182, Campbell Hofsetter made quick work of Dylan Nelson, recording a 39-second pin. With just a two-point lead going into the final match, Austin Nath gave the Tigers a solid win with a 36-second pin.

"It was a little bit of everything. We got a big win from Jarrett Louwagie that kept us going in the right direction," Bouwman said. "We ended up with a little bit of the upper hand and Austin Nath closed it out for us.

Against Adrian Area, Marshall was only able to come away with three wins against the 10th-ranked Dragons. Nick Erbes and Riley Roth each scored a major decision, while Jake Holbrock ended the match on a positive note, recording a pin at 3:53.

"The three guys that won for us wrestled some pretty good matches," said Bouwman. "They did a really nice job for us. They tried to make things happen the best they could."

The Tigers will be in action again on Thursday when they travel to Worthington for a triangular with the Trojans and Jackson County Central.

"We're improving, but we still have some things to work on," Bouwman said.
