Happy New Year Mustang Fans!
We are two weeks away from the 11th induction into the Southwest Minnesota State University Athletics Hall of Honor. The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 26 and tickets are now on sale to the general public by calling the SMSU athletics office.
The festivities will begin at noon in the SMSU Conference Center Ballroom, with a half-hour social followed by lunch and the induction ceremonies beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Tickets for the lunch and ceremony are $15 per person. To reserve a ticket for the banquet please call the SMSU athletics office at 507-537-7271.
This year's induction class includes: former men's basketball player Frank Belmont, swimmer Mike Fallon; football player Jason Jacobs, football and baseball player Rich Rhinesmith, basketball player Andrea (Schreier) Sawatzky, former head baseball coach Jim Denevan, community members and supporters of SMSU athletics Brian and Kris Gruhot and Dan Snobl, and the 1991 volleyball team. The SMSU Athletics Hall of Honor was established in 1992 and inducts new members every two years.
Also on tap for Jan. 26 is the annual SMSU women's and men's basketball Alumni Day. SMSU will host Winona State later that night as part of "Hawaiian Night" in the R/A Facility.

The SMSU women's basketball alumni game will start at 10 a.m. and will be followed by the SMSU men's basketball alumni game at 11 a.m., with both games being played in the PE Gym.
Following the games, all alumni are invited to attend a brunch starting at noon, provided by SMSU boosters Kevin and Karla Anundson. SMSU basketball alumni will receive two free tickets to the Mustang basketball doubleheader on Saturday night versus Winona State starting at 5 p.m.
The evening will close with a post-game social starting at 9 p.m. The location for the post-game social will be announced at a later time.

Gold Rush Raffle Tickets are now available! As of today, we have 96 Gold Rush Raffle Tickets turned in to the SMSU Department of Athletics. You can contact Mike Ellingson, Brian Gruhot, Ken Mukomela and Karen VanKeulen who all have tickets. The 10th Annual Gold Rush Raffle held on Friday, Feb. 22, at the SMSU Conference Center. We have some great live and silent auction items planned for this year's event. The Gold Rush Raffle Committee has set a goal of raising $50,000 this year with all the proceeds going to SMSU Athletic Scholarships. Please mark your calendars now for this great mid-winter social event.

This Week in Mustang Athletics:
The SMSU wrestling team begins competition this weekend as they head to Gunnison, Colo. on Saturday for four duals hosted by Western State University (Colo.). After nearly a month hiatus due to the holiday break, the Mustangs will participate in the 23rd annual Tracy Borah Duals. SMSU will take part in four duals versus Colorado Mesa, California Baptist, Western State (Colo.) and Colorado State-Pueblo. SMSU is a perfect 7-0 in dual matches this season. The Mustangs are coming off a trio of dual victories against Ridgewater Community College, St. John's University and Itasca Community College.
The SMSU men's basketball team will be at home this weekend for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games at the R/A Facility. The Mustangs (7-7, 4-3 NSIC) will welcome St. Cloud State University (9-2, 5-2 NSIC) to the R/A Facility on Friday with tip-off set for 8 p.m. SMSU will turn around on Saturday and face the University of Minnesota-Duluth (4-7, 2-5 NSIC) on Saturday with game time set for 7 p.m. SMSU is coming of an NSIC road split last weekend losing to Winona State in overtime on Friday night. On Saturday, the Mustangs travelled to Upper Iowa, where the Mustangs knocked off the Peacocks 74-69.
The SMSU women's basketball team (1-11, 0-7 NSIC) will host the top two teams in the north division of the NSIC this weekend at the R/A Facility. The Mustangs will battle St. Cloud State (10-1, 6-1 NSIC) on Friday with the contest beginning at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the Bulldogs come to Marshall with UMD posting an 8-3 overall record going 5-2 in the NSIC. Game time on Saturday is 5 p.m. The Mustangs are coming off a pair of NSIC losses to Winona State and Upper Iowa last weekend.
Following this weekend's games, SMSU will hit the road for a mid-week NSIC match-up at the University of Sioux Falls on Tuesday.
The SMSU wheelchair basketball team will be back in action on January 19-20 at home as they take on the Rollin' Timberwolves with two games on Saturday and one on Sunday.
