Falling into an early hole, the Marshall/Lakeview wrestling team found itself playing catch-up throughout Friday's road dual with Windom/Mountain Lake, and the Tigers could never quite close the gap. The Cobras jumped out to a 15-0 lead and pulled out a 44-27 win in a Southwest Conference bout.
"We lost some close ones in the beginning, got pinned a couple of times, and you could kind of see some of our youth show through in that," Marshall head coach Justin Bouwman said.
The Tigers dropped their first three matches Friday, two by pin, before Matt Facile stopped the Cobras' momentum by giving Marshall a pin with one second left in his 126-pound match against Chris Boyd.
Windom picked up a pair of decisions after that before Ramzi Gregoire got Marshall another pin at 145 pounds, taking down Danny Kneeland in the first period. The win cut the Windom lead to 22-12.
"Matt started us in the right direction, helped turn it around for us," Bouwman said. "And Ramzi stayed Ramzi. We bumped him up and he took care of what he could for us to try to get us back in it."
The Cobras reeled off four straight victories after that. Vincent Johnson, the fourth-ranked wrestler at 195 pounds (Class A) finished that run with a 15-5 major decision against Campbell Hofstetter at 182 pounds.
