SMSU wheelchair basketball team goes 3-0 vs Rollin’ T-Wolves

January 21, 2013
Marshall Independent

The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team put together an impressive defensive effort over the weekend and picked up a trio of victories over the Minnesota Rollin' Timberwolves in Marshall.

The Mustangs beat the Timberwolves 41-36 in Game 1 Saturday, then won Game 2 41-32.

Sunday's contest saw the Mustangs go scoreless for the final 5 minutes, 43 seconds of the game, but SMSU managed to hang on for a 42-41 victory.

"They shot 40 percent and we shot 33 percent and we still beat them, so that speaks volumes to our defensive effort all weekend," SMSU head coach Lew Shaver said.

Shaver praised Savoy Brown's leadership over the set of weekend games. The junior scored 32 points over the three games and grabbed 29 rebounds.

The Mustangs had a different leading scorer in all three games. In the first game it was David Nelson, who had 12 points and seven rebounds. In the second game it was Kyle Timmerman, who scored 12 points. And in the third game, Brown led the way with 13 points.
