Elks capture DVC tourney championship

The Elkton/Lake Benton boys' basketball team capped off a fourth-quarter comeback to capture the Dakota Valley Championship with a 69-60 win over Arlington (S.D.) at Deubrook High School in White, S.D., on Saturday.

The Elks (11-1 overall, 4-1 DVC) trailed narrowly after each of the first three quarters, but outscored Arlington 21-9 in the final period for the win.

Five players from Arlington scored in double figures, led by Tage Hargens' 17 points, but it was not enough to overcome the top heavy approach of the Elks.

Tyler and Heath Schindler poured in 21 and 20 points respectively, while Braden Carmody added 15 points to the E/LB victory. Tyler Schindler also had a team high eight rebounds, though Heath added nine assists and three steals. As a team the Elks held a 34-22 advantage on the glass.

The Elks are back on the court on Tuesday for a game against Deuel in Clear Lake.
