CHIPPEWA COUNTY - A Granite Falls man was killed Monday morning when an oversized load spilled from a passing semi on U.S. Highway 59 north of Milan, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

About 6:48 a.m., a semi driven by Dennis Clark, 66, of Vernal, Utah, was southbound on U.S. Highway 59 and hauling an oversized load when it struck an overhead railroad bridge, the State Patrol said. The collision caused the load to come off the truck and land on a northbound Toyota Camry driven by George Piasecki, 61, of Granite Falls, the State Patrol said.

Piasecki died at the scene of the crash, the State Patrol said.

The Chippewa County Sheriff Office, the Milan Fire Department, Appleton Ambulance and the Minnesota Department of Transportation all responded at the scene.
