Area girls' basketball

SWC 67, MCC 62

The Murray County Central girls' basketball team nearly capped its regular season with a big upset over Southwest Minnesota Christian, but instead it ended up being just a close call.

SWC rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to grab a 67-62 victory over MCC Monday in Slayton to finish with a perfect 16-0 record in the Red Rock Conference.

Hannah Van Dyke and Amber Pater both had big nights for the Eagles. Van Dyke scored a game-high 22 points, and Pater scored 21 points and surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career.

MCC's Jade Giese had 16 points, four steals and three assists in the losing effort. Taylor Schreier added 14 points, Jenna Ness tallied 12 points and seven rebounds, and Morgan Behrends just missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.

The Rebels finish the regular season with a 9-11 overall record and an 8-8 mark in the Red Rock Conference. They will open the Section 3A-South tournament at 4 p.m. Saturday against Adrian in Worthington.

WWG 56, MLA 45

The Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls' basketball team ended the regular season on a high note Monday night thanks to a strong second half against Mountain Lake Area.

Down nine at halftime, the Chargers outscored MLA 36-16 in the second half to pull away with a 56-45 victory in a Red Rock Conference game in Westbrook.

Paige Erickson had 17 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, five steals and three blocks to lead the Chargers to victory. Elizabeth Woelber added 11 points, and Dayna Comnick tacked on nine points and seven rebounds.

MLA (11-13 overall, 6-10 RRC) got 18 points from Janessa Peters in the losing effort.

WWG (10-12, 8-8) begins play in the Section 3A-South tournament Thursday with a home game against Edgerton.

Lincoln HI 76, E.C.H.O. Charter 9

The Lincoln HI girls' basketball team scored its season high Monday in a 76-9 win over E.C.H.O. Charter School in a non-conference game played in Ivanhoe.

KaLea DeSmet had a solid game on both ends of the court for Lincoln HI, scoring 14 points and also getting nine of her team's 26 steals.

Heidi Pavek added 11 points for the Rebels, Alex DeSmet tallied 10 points and five steals, and Morgan Citterman had six points and 11 rebounds.

Kristin Gladis scored four points to lead the Rockets.

Lincoln HI (2-19 overall) plays another non-conference game today at Edgerton, while E.C.H.O. Charter will open play in the Section 3A-North tournament Thursday at Ortonville.
