Section 3A boys' basketball

WWG 70, MCC 45

Westbrook-Walnut Grove defeated Murray County Central 70-45 in the first round of the Section 3A-South tournament Thursday in Westbrook.

A 13-0 run to end the first half put the Chargers up 43-20 and helped set the pace for their victory.

The game's top scorers were WWG's Taylor Lindaman and Shane Buchman with 16 points apiece. Alex Knutson also scored in double figures with 11 points.

MCC's Cole Bly added 13 points to the Rebels' cause. Seth Bass had seven points, and Jack Thony and Sam Erickson had six points each.

WWG (10-15 overall) will continue in the tournament to play against No. 1 seed Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in a quarterfinals game on Saturday in Worthington.

Lakeview 71, E.C.H.O. Charter 35

After a establishing a firm lead at halftime, Lakeview stayed well ahead to beat E.C.H.O. Charter School 71-35 in a Section 3A-North first-round game Thursday night in Cottonwood.

Derek Larsen scored 20 points in the game and added five assists to lead the Lakers.

Spencer Larsen also posted 10 points for Lakeview and was responsible for seven of the team's 33 rebounds. Tyler Lange's three 3-pointers also helped the Lakers on their way to the win.

The Rockets' leading scorer was Abe Faugstad, who contributed 14 points to the loss. The team also recieved seven rebounds and two points from Tanner Lentz.

Lakeview is now 12-15 overall. The Lakers will continue in the sub-section tournament and go on to play against Canby in the quarterfinals on Saturday in Montevideo.
