Section 3A-South boys' basketball results

RTR 81, WWG 57

Hanging on to a four-point lead early in the second half, the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton boys' basketball team found its rhythm down the stretch and rolled to an 81-57 victory over Westbrook-Walnut Grove Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Section 3A-South tournament in Worthington.

WWG (10-16 overall), the No. 7 seed in the tournament, trailed 40-30 at the half and started the second half on a 7-1 run to pull within two baskets of the second-seeded and fifth-ranked Knights. RTR (26-1) outscored the Chargers 40-16 from there to pick up its 18th straight victory.

Brett Peterson had a strong all-around game for the Knights with 20 points, eight rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks. Brett Vercruysse added 20 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks, while Shay Wabeke and Newt Dunblazier scored 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Dunblazier also had five of RTR's 11 blocks in the game. He helped the Knights control the paint as they out-rebounded WWG 41-25.

The Chargers got 12 points from Taylor Lindaman in the loss, while Alex Knutson scored 11 points to go with eight assists.

RTR moves on to face No. 3 seed Red Rock Central at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Worthington.

RRC 86, Adrian 69

Jeff DeCock went a perfect 16 of 16 from the foul line, scoring a game-high 42 points to go with eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals as the senior guard led Red Rock Central to an 86-69 win over Adrian Saturday in a Section 3A-South quarterfinal game in Worthington.

It was a close game early on and RRC led 47-40 at the half before pulling away in the second half. The Falcons (16-9 overall), who are the third seed in the sub-section, advance to face No. 2 seed Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Worthington.

RRC also got a big game from senior Henry Rogotzke. The center scored 18 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, dished out eight assists and had six blocked shots.

RRC shot 27 of 32 from the foul line for the game.

Adrian was led in the loss by Nick Reyne, who was 12-for-16 from the foul line and scored 32 points. Brady Lonneman added nine points, 12 rebounds and six assists.
